Welcome to All Saints Church, Witley

All Saints Church, Witley, Surrey

Welcome to the All Saints Witley web-site.

May is a busy month with Ascension Day, Pentecost (Whitsun) weddings and a Gift Day. Click here for details of the Gift Day - we look forward to seeing you there.
Ascension Day (Thursday May 9th) is when we remember Jesus' last appearance on earth after his resurrection at Easter. He took his friends up a mountain, instructed them to tell all people that God loves them and disappeared from their sight. A strange event, but significant because once Jesus had physically disappeared, his spirit became available to everyone.
At Pentecost, (May 19th) or Whit-Sunday as it used to be called we hear about the time when the followers of Jesus were suddenly empowered to do extraordinary things. These men who were so afraid and spent time hiding away behind locked doors received the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit and were immediately able to preach, teach and heal.
That same power and energy which we call the Holy Spirit is a free gift to all of us, available every time we pray and ask for it. On that day as well as the morning services there will be a choral evensong at 5.30pm using the Book of Common Prayer. Our choir work very hard to produce some wonderful music and on a summer's evening it's a delight to just sit and listen to them in the peaceful atmosphere. The service lasts less than an hour with no sermon, be good to yourself and spend some 'time out' with God? Why not give it a try?
As the summer is almost here the grass and weeds are growing rapidly in the churchyard. The workforce to keep them at bay are all volunteers and more people are always welcome. The next working party or The Green Gym as it's called, because it is an excellent work-out, will be on Saturday June 1st from 8.30am - 12.30pm. Mid-morning coffee and cake and a drink at The White Hart afterwards are part of the fun of the morning. Just turn up.

The parish of Witley is made up of the villages of Witley, Brook, Wormley and Sandhills. The Parish Church of All Saints dates from about 1040 and is situated just off the main Petworth Road (A283) in Church Lane, opposite the White Hart public house. Witley CofE Infant School is opposite the church and has close links with it.

Apart from a regular pattern of worship on Sundays and Holy Days, the church serves the whole parish and after recent refurbishment is available every day for a variety of uses. The door is open in daylight hours for anyone who may wish to spend a quiet few moments or longer in the peace and quiet of this ancient building.

The mission of the church in Witley is to bring the love of God to all who live and work there. The church is open to all people, and here to serve the entire parish. Everyone is welcome at all services and other events and anyone is welcome to use the space in church for their own charitable or social events where appropriate. Click here for more information on using the church for your event.

If you are new to the area you are very welcome! There are a wide range of activities going on around the church that may interest you.

For those who want to find out more about Christianity and would like to explore the meaning of it all, an enquiry group lasting 8 weeks happens twice or three times a year, usually on a weekday evening. A team of Pastoral Assistants visit the housebound, take Communion to those who can't get to church for whatever reason, and generally help the clergy keep an eye on pastoral needs.

Brian Shand, the Vicar and Ann Fraser, the Curate are always available to talk to you and welcome you. Enjoy the web-site!
