Building The Future

THE AIM OF THE PROJECT
To bring the beautiful 11th Century building into fit use for the 21st Century and new ways of "doing church", creating much greater weekday usage, not just for Sunday worship and ancillary occasional use. We are particularly keen to involve wider use within the local Community, including the Schools within the Parish.

THE PROJECT
A small extension will be built adjoining and accessed through the Vestry, to provide a disabled-friendly lavatory.
The disused North-side porch (now a flower-arrangers' storeroom) will be converted to form a fully-fitted Kitchenette.
A new flower-arrangers’ and cleaners' cupboard, with sink, will be constructed internally against the South wall of the South Transept.
All clutter and the altar platform will be cleared away from the North and South Transepts and crossover and a new raised floor will be provided to cover the whole of this area, carpeted and fitted with a purpose-designed and easily removable altar rail. The North side access to the raised floor will be ramped for ease of access for disabled users. Seating will be provided by comfortable stacking chairs which can be arranged to suit the specific occasions.

The Project will cater for the need to bring in wider and more user-friendly, (non-profane) Community uses, including, inter alia, pre-school activities, local school usage, concerts and musical events, displays, exhibitions, small lunches & coffee mornings, charity events and sales, meetings and (not least) smaller, more intimate worship occasions – all within a more friendly and practical setting. The new disabled-friendly lavatory and kitchenette will make such events in the future far more successful in their organisation.
It will also create much greater weekday usage, not just for Sundays.

ESTIMATED COST and FUNDRAISING
The current total estimated cost is in the order of £85,000, divided as to £48,500 for the lavatory and associated works, £8,000 for the kitchenette, £17,500 for the reordering of the transepts & crossover and £11,000 for fees.
